Vescom launches a new collection of textile wall coverings

Tactility in the spotlight: the new collection of textile wall coverings 08
Avoiding the smooth surfaces that are now synonymous with ubiquitous screens and digital devices, the new Vescom collection of 23 products adds tangible depth and character to spaces. Responding to the rise of industrial-style interiors, the range of non-woven materials includes concrete-like tones and earthy shades, colors that put the use of new cutting-edge techniques in the foreground.
Christiane Muller, Design Director at Vescom, describes this architectonic collection as a series of ?reduced metallics?. ?The 08 textile wall covering collection downplays luxury. It is subtle and sophisticated. From time to time there is a little more ornamentation, but it is never overdone.?
The collection is characterized by an interplay between the substrate and light, with subtle shimmering moments adding a touch of luxury to the neutral palette. Montado, for example, is made from compressed wood pulp. The product's silver series is reminiscent of concrete, while its darker shades almost imitate cork. Star-shaped openings reveal glimpses of the substrate, which glows and sparkles in the presence of light.
Unique combinations of techniques and treatments – printing, dyeing, coating, crushing, embossing, flocking, laser and lamination – result in a rich palette of surprising products. The raised lines of Zagara, for example, almost recall Japanese painted wood. Kai's complex embossing method is concealed by an aesthetically simple design. A grid of three-dimensional dots adds a layer of industrial poetry to ten shades of handmade leather, a recurring material in the complementary Fenda series.
Some techniques have also been adapted to achieve new solutions. Montresor's seemingly traditional herringbone pattern, an effect usually produced by weaving, is made possible in a non-woven material by modifying laser machines to cut and score it repeatedly. Tiffany is also the result of new laser techniques. The product features fine bands of micro-sequins on a glossy leather base.
The entire collection complies with ASTM E84 Class A and Euroclass, making it ideal for the contract market. Combining luxury and tactility, the 08 collection is perfectly suited to similar spaces, such as hotels, restaurants and bars.
Linen and Switch: new additions to the 05 textile wall covering collection
Metaphorically reinforcing a collection in which literal strength is key, two new Xorel products join Vescom's 05 textile wall covering sample book. Linen and Switch feature a pronounced warp and weft, a trait that matches their textile-inspired origins. Linen draws its organic texture from the movement of the threads. Marrying tradition and technology, the result achieves a classic look with a modern material. Likewise, Switch is a play on timeless herringbone. The alternation of herringbone and braided stripes creates a tonal design whose pattern offers both interesting close-up views and a broad texture when seen from a distance. Like their collection companions, both products have a neutral tone.
